Listening Party: I Am Fya

April 3, 2012

I stayed after work at the Hootananny last Friday because I couldn’t face saying goodbye to the sun. It was also an excuse to drink my first pint of the year and then my second and then my third…urgh you get the picture. I was also curious to see a particular act on the line-up called I Am Fya – she caught my eye on the poster for general badass appearance and lack of substantial clothing [I can be a bit simple-minded like that sometimes].

I know they say you can’t judge a book by its cover or in this case, the quality of knickers, but I Am Fya was awesome. One woman, a backing track of drrrty basslines and a stage with enough room to wind your waist on is a simple recipe for greatness. I thought it might have had something to do with the amount of alcohol in my system that night but even in the cold light of day [and after a small visit to Google] tracks like ‘Mostly Brown’ and ‘Itchy And Scratchy’ still sounded pretty genius.

I also vaguely remember being drunk on female empowerment [and beer with a bit of lime in it] during a track that I’m gonna guess is called ‘I’m A Girl’ – sadly not available to stream on the I Am Fya SoundCloud. But what I really want to know is when can I get a copy of these songs so I can blast them all over town?
