Meet Fenway Bergamot, the male-alter ego of Laurie Anderson. Developing her craft in the 1970s, Laurie experimentation with a voice vocoder or ‘audio drag’, took on a fully-fledged persona with the release of her last album Homeland. Having grown beyond what had originally been dubbed her ‘voice of authority’ and perhaps even the voice of her conscience, Laurie re-interpreted it as a masculine alter-ego, as the voice ‘of a guy who’s selling you an insurance policy you don’t want’.
