Stream: Kate Bush – Director’s Cut
The masterful Kate Bush has a new album called Director’s Cut coming out and it’s streaming now on NPR.
Apparently Bush was unhappy with many of the original recordings on The Sensual World (1989) and The Red Shoes (1993) which is why a selection of tracks off both albums have been re-recorded with new vocals for her latest release. The Sensual World is one of my favourites (I absolutely love ‘Between A Man and A Woman’) and DC includes ‘Never Be Mine’, ‘Deeper Understanding’, and ‘This Woman’s Work’.
What I was not aware of was that Kate Bush originally wanted to use a passage from James Joyce’s Ulysees as the lyrics for title track ‘The Sensual World’ but was not granted permission by his estate. Over 20 years later though, permission has been granted and you can hear the track as intended, now titled ‘Flower of the Mountain’.
And here’s the new video for ‘Deeper Understanding’ that I missed while I was out in the wilderness:
